Client project 2024
Desktop applicationNutriCalc.
A recipe tool that turns ingredient quantities into nutritional figures and ingredient costs for food products.
01 / Context
From ingredients to usable figures.
Venezia Italian Food needed a practical way to assemble recipes from raw ingredients and work out the resulting nutritional values. NutriCalc brings both tasks into one desktop application.
The calculation also includes ingredient costs, making it possible to examine a recipe's raw material cost alongside its nutritional information.
02 / Workflow
Build a recipe, then inspect the result.
The user first records raw ingredients, then creates a named recipe. In the recipe editor, ingredients can be selected and added in specific quantities; the application combines their values as the recipe takes shape.
A results table shows the calculated information for the finished recipe. The user can choose which values to display and view them for different reference quantities or portions, including several portion sizes for the same recipe.
Record raw materials
Keep the ingredients used in recipes available for selection.
Set quantities
Compose a recipe by adding measured amounts of each ingredient.
Review the figures
Compare nutritional values and ingredient costs for the chosen portions.
03 / Calculated values
The information needed for product preparation.
The available figures include energy in kilojoules and kilocalories, fat and saturated fat, carbohydrates and sugars, protein, salt and selected nutrients such as magnesium. Ingredient cost is available alongside them.
Values can be expressed per 100 grams or for a chosen serving size. This helps prepare the nutritional tables used on products while keeping the underlying recipe and quantities visible.
04 / Engineering
A focused Windows tool.
Built in February 2024 with C# and WPF, NutriCalc is a purpose-built desktop application. Its interface follows the work itself: manage ingredients, compose recipes and inspect the calculated results.
The project illustrates a straightforward form of custom software: turning a repetitive calculation into a tool designed around a client's actual workflow.
