Early accessPVHSCapture.
A Windows desktop application for capturing analog video, with a live preview and direct control over the capture devices.
01 / Overview
Bringing analog video into a digital workflow.
PVHSCapture explores what it takes to digitize VHS tapes and other analog video sources through modern capture hardware. The application provides a desktop interface for selecting devices, previewing the incoming signal and exporting a recording to a file.
The project grew from an engineering interest in multimedia capture: coordinating video, audio and timing while keeping device behavior visible to the person doing the recording.
02 / Capture workflow
Preview, monitor, record.
Video and audio input devices can be chosen independently. A live preview shows the incoming video, while audio monitoring and an input-level display help check the accompanying sound.
During capture, the interface compares measured FPS with the target rate. An optional forced-FPS mode provides another way to handle timing, and FFmpeg is used to export the result.
Choose the inputs
Select the video source and audio input separately.
Check the signal
Use the live preview, audio level and FPS readouts while capturing.
Save the recording
Export the captured material to a file through FFmpeg.
03 / Engineering
A capture pipeline with clear responsibilities.
The C++17 application uses Qt Widgets for the interface, DirectShow to enumerate Windows capture devices, OpenCV in the video pipeline and FFmpeg for export. Its code separates user interface, device handling and background workers.
A dedicated worker handles capture independently of the interface. The project pays particular attention to start and stop behavior, frame timing and the visibility of capture conditions.
04 / Open source
An early version, open to inspection.
The repository contains an early but functional version of PVHSCapture. The main capture flow and device interface are usable, while stability and the surrounding experience are still being improved.
