01 / The idea

Communication beyond a central point.

Sovereign Network is an R&D project focused on communication between embedded devices. It explores a decentralized approach in which connected devices form part of a network rather than relying on a single central service for every exchange.

The research looks at what a mesh-style network requires in practice: identifying participants, moving information between devices and keeping communication understandable even as the network changes. The project is presented as an experiment, not as a deployed telecommunications service.

02 / Network exploration

A network shaped by its nodes.

Mesh networking raises questions that a conventional direct connection does not: how devices discover each other, how information travels beyond an immediate neighbor, and how the system reacts when a participant becomes unavailable. These questions drive the architecture explored by the prototype.

Radio communication adds its own constraints, including limited bandwidth, intermittent links and the need to handle messages carefully. Encryption is part of the project's scope, with attention to protecting exchanges without claiming a security level that has not been independently assessed.

01 / TOPOLOGY

Distributed nodes

Explore communication across devices whose connections can change over time.

02 / EXCHANGE

Radio links

Study message exchange under the practical limits of embedded radio hardware.

03 / TRUST

Protected communication

Include encryption in the design of exchanges between participants.

03 / Embedded engineering

Software, hardware and interface together.

The prototype brings together C++ development and ESP32-based hardware. Working at device level means considering memory, processing capacity, radio behavior and the experience of using the system, instead of treating networking as a purely abstract service.

LVGL provides the foundation for an on-device graphical interface. This interface gives the experiment a tangible way to present network information and interactions alongside the underlying embedded software.

04 / Research direction

Testing the whole system, not just a connection.

The value of Sovereign Network lies in examining how networking, protected exchanges and an embedded interface fit together on real devices. It is a space for technical exploration, where behavior, resilience and usability can be evaluated as the prototype develops.
